It’s about to get crazy folks. Transfer portal season officially opens December 5th but we’re already seeing some action. With coaches getting fired and hired, with new recruits getting ready to sign, we’re here to help you sort through who’s in the portal and where they might be going.
Cade McNamara – Quarterback – Michigan
In 2021, Cade was Third-Team All-Big Ten last year and led Michigan to its first conference championship in 17 years. His thanks? Getting benched for J.J. McCarthy.
Originally a four star recruit out of Reno, Nevada, McNamara will have no shortage of suitors, but Iowa is the heavy favorite currently.
If you can’t trust this guy’s cousin, who can you trust?
Trey Sanders – Running Back – Alabama
Sanders is leaving Alabama as a grad transfer. He had a little over 500 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns in his career with the Crimson Tide, but unfortunately battled multiple injury problems.
Bama fans have nothing but good things to say about Trey.
Although according to some, this may just be the start for players leaving.
We’ll keep an eye out on this one.
Hudson Card – Quarterback – Texas
Hudson was one of seven players to hit the Portal from the University of Texas. He was the number 2 dual threat quarterback in 2020 but after a rough start in 2021 he was benched for Casey Thomspon. There were rumors he would transfer last year but Card stuck it out only to be made backup to Quinn Ewers.
Whether he should have been playing or not is up for debate, but what isn’t up for debate is the love Texas fans have for Hudson.
Where Card goes is anyone’s guess, and there have been a lot of guesses.
Also hearing Notre Dame, Illinois, and UCLA.
Dont’e Thornton – Wide Receiver – Oregon
Welcome to the new age of college football.
Thornton will leave as a grad transfer and be eligible to play right away. As a top 10 WR recruit in 2021, there will be plenty of teams interested in adding his services; but it looks like one team is already the leader in the clubhouse.
Malik Hornsby – Quarterback – Arkansas
This is the second time Malik Hornsby has entered the transfer portal. He previously entered last year before withdrawing his name and sticking with the Razorbacks. It seems like this time it will stick, and truth be told Razorback fans are fine with that.
Hornsby saw only limited playing time behind KJ Jefferson. Pittman even tried using him at other positions to take advantage of his athleticism.
Theo Wease – Wide Receiver – Oklahoma
Wease was one of three five stars Oklahoma signed in the 2019 class, along with Jadon Hasslewood and Spencer Rattler. All three will leave the OU program before graduation.
You would think with Oklahoma’s offense lacking playmakers the Sooner fans would be a little more bummed about losing Wease, but apparently not.
Wease will have two years of eligibility wherever he goes, but some OU fans think he is a lock to go to USC.
Not sure how the roster numbers will work out considering USC is going to get everyone’s wide receiver transfers.
Ish Harris – Linebacker – Texas A&M
Harris was one of several entrants to the transfer portal from the Aggies squad, along with LJ Johnson, Chase Lane, and Donnell Harris Jr, among others.
The Aggies signed the number one recruiting class last year and there was quite a lot of internet talk about just how A&M $ecured that cla$$. Well, Ish Harris did the Aggies no favors when he entered the transfer portal.
A&M fans had other thoughts on Mr. Harris’ departure and tweets.
Whatever helps you grieve.
