BYU Fans are Closet Utah Utes Fans

Being a fan of the BYU Cougars is a choice. It comes with the distinction of being totally irrelevant in the minds of nearly all that watch college football while thinking that we all care. It is plastered with the idea that BYU is the Notre Dame of the West despite having only been ranked twice to end a season in the past 12 years.

But what if BYU fans were actually fans of a greater football program. A better football program. One that has become a powerhouse in the Conference of Champions. What if BYU fans were actually Utah Utes fans?

Using the fallacy that a rising tide lifts all boats, one BYU fan says the quiet part out loud: BYU fans are Utah Utes fans.

And this comes as no great surprise. Professional franchises are known to have a little sister. The Giants have the Jets. The Lakers have the Clippers. Utah has BYU. The “fans” of those little sisters are best known for being closet fans of their “rival” so they can know and understand what it feels like to be a part of a winning team.

Is Zach Wilson the only true fan of Cougars from the state of Utah? Probably, but we all know he’s a lifelong Utah Utes fan, just like all the rest of BYU’s fandom.
