There’s no off-season when it comes to posting. Football only gives your team one game a week which is honestly pretty mid. And college basketball has better characters. From Bob Knight to Sister Jean, college basketball covers the full spectrum of personalities.
So what better place to discuss all this than message boards?
Kentucky
As an ardent, longtime fan of Bama Hoops, I was on cloud 9 after the Tide whipped Kentucky 78-52. It’s always nice to beat them and the utter dismantling was surely a sign that Bama had arrived. Then they lost to the Gamewieners in Rupp and Bama’s victory over Big Blue Nation became just another win.
Heat has been on Coach Cal all season over the team’s performance and now it’s spreading to UK AD Mitch Barnhart who recently did some interviews trying to quiet the crowd.
It didn’t work.
The Cats are double-digit underdogs to fifth-ranked Tennessee in Knoxville Saturday. Some UK fans see an opportunity to make lemonade so it’s not all bad.
Alabama
Did you know the Crimson Tide has played the nation’s toughest schedule so far? They’ve done alright to this point I’d say. As mentioned earlier, Bama thrashed the Cats then went to Fayetteville and closed the last four and a half minutes on a 19-6 run to clinch an 84-69 win over Arkansas.
Now LSU comes to town as a 15.5-point underdog and the fans demand a bloodletting.
Alabama’s had some solid-to-damn good teams under Oats. But things could get epic this season for Cereal Box, LLC.
Next week, Bama goes to Vandy’s trash court (thankfully no more Kevin Stallings though) then goes to Coumbia, Mo. to face the #20 Mizzou Tigers.
Duke
After getting clubbed like a baby seal by NC State, the Blue Devils managed to sneak by Boston College on the road then overcome a second-half deficit to defeat Pitt at home. While still in the Top 25, Duke fans are feeling uncertain about how the season could go.
So the usual dubs Duke’s accustomed to aren’t happening and Blue Devils fans are turning elsewhere to find comfort. The program has arguably the best pipeline to the pros but that just makes the struggles so much harder to understand.
Some are underwhelmed at the talent being considered.
The Blue Devils face Clemson on the road this Saturday and don’t play again until a week later until they host #16 Miami. Jon Scheyer definitely has his hands full replacing a legend.
Tennessee
Vols basketball has been on a roll so far this season. A victory over Kansas is included in their 14 wins over 16 games and more success is expected in conference play. It’s a party on Rocky Top these days after a strong football season. Now a reeling Kentucky basketball team shows up to play and with it some schadenfreude.
Like the poster notes below, you can’t fully count out the Cats because they do have talent and always take time to gel in Calipari’s system…
Still though, Kentucky sucks and Tennessee fans need to get used to running their mouths because it’s SO. MUCH. FUN.
Next week, the Vols have road games against Mississippi State and LSU, both decent squads. Rick Barnes & Co. should continue to prove there are very few equals to them not only in the SEC but all of college hoops.
