UCLA: It’s Time to Extend Chip Kelly Again

What a wonderful time it is to be a UCLA Bruins fan. Not only are they undefeated to start the year, but they beat two teams from the state of Alabama to do so. It seems like the investment in Chip Kelly is finally paying off and it’s my opinion that he is deserving of a long-term deal.

Things are going so well in the 5th year of the Chip Kelly-era that undefeated UCLA fans are expecting roughly 25,000 inside the Rose Bowl for their upcoming game vs undefeated conference foe Washington. While that number might seem low, this is almost double what UCLA’s basketball arena holds. 25,000 at a game would be quite an accomplishment for the Bruins.

And they clearly aren’t getting any respect. There are currently 10 teams that are 3-1 ahead of UCLA in the AP Poll. Despite playing Bowling Green, South Alabama, and Alabama State, the AP Poll is underrating how well this UCLA team is playing.

More importantly, in Chip Kelly’s 5th year, there are only two things holding UCLA from really dominating: recruiting and defense. But how important are those things anyways? Chip Kelly sells himself. He doesn’t need to pimp himself out to high school kids. And defense? The best defense is a Chip Kelly offesnse.

There are 86,400 seconds in a single day but the right second to extend Chip Kelly for the UCLA football program is this one.
